  • How to use Benchmarks Tool

In order to use our extensive norms database, we created a tool that helps our clients to pull norms and build their own benchmarks in an easy and fast way.

Everyone can access it from the Realeyes dashboard:

     mceclip1.png

Once you click it, you should be able to give a name to the Benchmark you are going to create:

     mceclip0.png

You can build your Benchmark based on the norms we have registered in our database (in the red square on the screenshot below) that is known as Norms tab in the Realeyes dashboard:

    mceclip0.png

Once you select the norms and demographics (age, gender), click 'Add to table':

    mceclip1.png

Once you finish adding dimensions as well as give the name to your Benchmark, save the changes and go 'Next'.

On the second page, you should be able to choose the Realeyes metrics you would like to get data for:

    mceclip2.png

On the third page, you will be able to choose the videos or studies and add them as a separate column (benchmark) as well as you can skip this step:

    mceclip3.png

Important, select a video simply by clicking on it, press 'Add to table'. Once done, you will see a second column added to the table:

    mceclip4.png

Press 'Save' button and you will be redirected to starting page with all the data and settings saved.

Please wait for a minute or so in-order data to be processed. You will be able to export data for your benchmarks in Excel file by clicking the arrow:

    mceclip5.png

The benchmarks you created are not updating automatically. In order to update the data, you need to Refresh it here:

    mceclip6.png

You can also Edit, Rename or Delete your benchmarks any time.

If you have any questions while using the Benchmarks tool, please, revert back to the account manager you are working with.

  • How to find the number of videos and views included in the norms

Most videos that Realeyes tests are included in our norms set for use in metric comparisons.

However when you see a norm displayed on one of our results pages it will have had some level of filtering applied to it by default in order to make it more relevant to the media it's being compared against. For instance by default, norms are filtered by duration of the media, meaning that your 30 second ad will be compared against ads of a similar duration.

Furthermore you are able to adjust the norms filters yourself if you wish to compare your ad(s) to a bespoke norm of your creation.

Therefore it's useful to know exactly how many ads/videos and views your dealing with for a particular norm, the guide below will explain how to achieve this.

Norms are available on the Charts page.

    Charts Page

    mceclip2.png

The above picture displays the three main Norms components:

    1. The Norms Filters
      • This section allows you to adjust which filters are applied to the norms.
        • 'Any' = No filtering applied
        • 'Auto' = Default filtering applied
        • Anything other than 'Any' or 'Auto' = a specifically selected choice by the user for that filter
    2. The Norms Filters Selection
      • This drop-down menu allows you to select additional filters to use, which will appear in the Norms Filter.
    3. The Benchmark Information
      • This information pane provides details of exactly which filters are applied to the specific benchmark you are looking at, as well as the resulting number of videos and views that comprise the benchmark.

The 'Benchmark Information' is the key part here. It summarises how the Benchmark you're looking at has been filtered and displays the number of videos and views that have gone into it.

    mceclip4.png

As you can see, each potential filter (whether selected to display in the 'Norms Filter' section or not) is listed along with what it has been set to. The number of videos and the number of views is listed at the bottom of this box.

  • How can I tell if my video's scores are significantly different than norm?

This information can be found directly on the charts page in the summary section beneath the displayed chart. The number to the left, in black, is the value associated with your specific video. The number to the right, in light grey, is the value of the norm.

The small arrow to the right of your video's value indicates whether your video performs significantly different from the selected norm. If the arrow is pointing upwards, your video performed significantly better than the norm. If the arrow is pointing downwards, your video performed significantly worse. A confidence interval of 95% is used for these statistical tests.

  • How do I add new norm categories?

Adding new norm categories can be done directly from our dashboard - if you don't already have a dashboard account, you can sign-up for one here.

Once you are signed in, select 'Media Library' from the menu at the top. From there you can view all of the media that has been previously uploaded to your company's account or upload any additional media by selecting 'Browse to Upload'.

    Capture.PNG

Once a video is successfully uploaded, its thumbnail image will appear in the Media Library. The next step is to click on the thumbnail image to edit the details for that video. There are a number of fields that can be edited:

    • Title: Change the title of the video
    • Company: Select the account to assign the video to
    • Brand: Select or add the appropriate brand name
    • Tags: Add any additional video tags

    mceclip0.png

    Filling in the Company field:

First, make sure your company's name is selected under the 'Company' field. This will ensure that any additional norm categories that you create can only be viewed by others that belong to the same company account.

Note, you are only able to add new norms categories for videos that were uploaded to your company's account.

Filling in the Brand and Tag fields:

The Brand and Tag fields are used to categorize videos so that they can be included within specific norms. The categorization system is “free-form”, so you can use any classifications you would like within these fields. The important thing is that the categories are all uniform and follow a system, so similar videos are always categorized in the same way, and therefore fall into the same norm category.

    Brand:

    • When filling in the brand field, either a new brand can be typed into the text box or a pre-existing brand can be selected from the drop-down menu.
    • Every time a new brand is entered it is saved to our system, so it is helpful to reduce typos as much as possible. Once a new brand is created, it will be saved to the drop-down menu for the next time it is needed.
    • It should be taken into account that only registering the brand in the system isn't enough, afterwards it must be assigned to the specific category/sub-category, otherwise it will show up on the dashboard as an unknown. It is better to assign brand to its category/sub-category rather than to industry, because this way it gives more specific results.

    Tags:

    • As you type in a new word under the tag field, a drop down list of pre-existing tags may appear. You can either add a new tag by typing it into the text box or select one of the pre-existing tags from the drop-down list.
    • Every time a new tag is entered it is saved to our system, so it is helpful to reduce typos as much as possible. Once a new tag is created, it will be saved to the drop-down menu for the next time it is needed.
    • One method that may help is to search through previously tagged videos in your Media Library to see how similar videos have been categorized, and then use the same tags - consistency is the main thing here.
    • Remember that videos can fall into multiple categories. In these case, you will just need to add multiple categories into the tags field. For instance, in the image above, the video is categorized as 'food, beverages and confectionery', 'beverages', 'soft drinks' etc.
    • If a tag is comprised of two words it needs to be written with apostrophes. For example, sports drinks should be written as "sports drinks".
    • You can include slashes in your naming conventions. For example, a commonly used tag is Smartphones/Tablets.
    • The categorization system is upper/lower case sensitive.

It is possible to go back and edit or add additional brands or tags to videos at any time. One thing to keep in mind is that many videos have already been categorized according to Realeyes conventions. In this case, it is best to leave these tags as they are and simply add any additional custom tags you would like to include.

Do not try to categorize multiple videos at once by 'Selecting All'. This will result in any previous categorizations being deleted for the selected videos.

Lastly, be sure to select 'Save Changes' once you are done updating the details of a video. Any additional Brand or Tag categories you have added will immediately be included in our norms. Note, there must be at least 10 videos per norm category in order for the norm values to display on our Charts page.

  • What are the definitions of the norm metrics?

There are 4 metrics that are used for comparison to our norms for each emotion:

    • % of people: the % of people who showed that specific emotion at any point during the video.
    • Avg %: the average % of people showing the emotion per second, across the course of the video.
    • Max %: the highest % of people showing the emotion in any single second. The ‘peak’.
    • Min %: the lowest % of people showing the emotion in any single second. The ‘trough’.

  • Do you have norms?

Yes, we have tested almost 29,000 videos, which provides statically relevant reads across over a million views in our database – and these numbers are growing every day. Alongside our viewers’ emotions, we also have additional metadata on the videos themselves, and the people watching them - this additional information is key to building our norms.

Our norms are available in many dimensions. The full list is available here. If there is a norm of interest that is not currently available, get in touch as we are often able to add categories by request.

It is also possible to leverage our unique and versatile database to create norms within several different dimensions, gathering valuable insights which might not otherwise be immediately evident.

It's where our norms really come into their own -  their quality and their functionality. Clients can now split billions of data points in a fraction of a second, tagging their own data and filtering it as they need for the most customisable emotional benchmarks in the world.

Visit our guide to Creating Custom Norms for a full run-through of the possibilities.
